The DEMAND project addresses the growing need for sustainable, secure, and efficient digitalization in both private and public sectors. While data-driven work and AI adoption are becoming standard, many organizations—especially SMEs—struggle to bridge the gap between technological potential and practical implementation. DEMAND, a SPRONG initiative supported by Regieorgaan SIA, brings together three universities of applied sciences (HAN, Saxion, Fontys) and 16 industry partners to develop a comprehensive toolbox for optimizing data chains.
Central to DEMAND are its learning communities, which focus on three pillars: AI Engineering, Data Engineering, and Data Management. The LLM Engineering Working Group plays a key role within AI Engineering by exploring how large language models can be designed, deployed, and integrated into operational environments. This involves creating architectures and digital ecosystems that enable advanced data processing and algorithmic solutions for real-world applications.
By combining academic expertise with industry challenges, DEMAND aims to deliver validated, integrated data pipelines that support sectors like manufacturing, energy, and public services. The project fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, and responsible data handling, ensuring organizations have the tools to leverage AI and data science effectively.
