Project description
Our main research question mainly consisted of: "How can we let children move around more in an engaging & fun manner using AR technology?"
In this project Cluster sports & technology asked us to come up with a concept of an AR game that lets children actively move around and do sports while playing games & progressing through a story. Our main inspiration for this game was Magic Trailz. For us the main challenges were designing for younger audiences with different needs, and finding a way to integrate sports into minigames in order to make it feel like the kids weren't doing sports but instead were playing games.
Context
Our context is that our client Cluster sports & technology wanted us to create an AR sports game inspired by their previous project Magic Trailz.
Cluster sports & technology is a company that specializes in combining media with sports. And therefore they wished for us to create the project Hidden Wilds.
Although they wanted us to create a prototype, the primary goal of the project was to research how to make an effective AR game with sports included.
Results
The result of this project is an AR prototype that has 3 minigames, each designed to demonstrate our idea of what the game could become if it were to be fully realized and developed further. Together these minigames serve as a proof of concept, showcase of gameplay mechanics, interaction ideas, and the potential of AR in this context. Rather than making a finished product, the prototype focuses on communicating the core experience and creative direction of the game.
In addition to the prototype, we produced an advisory document that has all of our research findings and insights. This document is was a significant portion of the project, as the majority of our time and effort was dedicated to research, analysis, and concept validation. It includes our methodology, concepts and the conclusions we drew from our findings. This advice document was also the primary deliverable our client wanted, making sure that the results of our research can be used as a foundation for future decision-making & development for the rest of this project.
About the project group
For us our previous educations where primarily in Media Design. Our work ethic was positive and we didn't encounter many issues. We spent about 4 months on our project. We worked primarily on location at Fontys, although we also worked from home occasionally. Furthermore we used Scrum, daily standups, sprint retrospectives & weekly meeting with both our clients & tutors.
