The RIGS (Robot is geen superverspreider) project involved three key implementations: creating a mobile application for user interaction, enhancing navigation accuracy and stability, and optimizing code robustness. The mobile application provides an intuitive interface for remote monitoring and destination definition. Navigation improvements incorporated advanced algorithms and sensor fusion techniques. Code optimization enhanced performance and maintainability. These implementations collectively bolstered RIGS' capabilities in addressing staff shortages and navigating environments with precision and reliability.
Context
RIGS (Robot is geen superverspreider) is an innovative robot developed by Fontys students to address staff shortages during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Equipped with advanced mapping and navigation capabilities, RIGS can efficiently map its environment and autonomously navigate through it
Results
Throughout the semester, the RIGS (Robot is geen superverspreider) project successfully implemented several key enhancements. The primary focus was on improving the accuracy of navigation, achieved through the incorporation of advanced algorithms and sensor fusion techniques. Additionally, a mobile application was developed to enable user-friendly interaction, allowing users to define end points, input set points, and control the robot. The application also included multiple modes for the robot, which could be easily selected using an on-robot switch. Indicator lights were integrated into the robot's design to provide visual feedback on its operational status. Notably, the project placed a significant emphasis on enhancing the robustness of the codebase, ensuring stability and reliability of the overall system. These implementations collectively elevated the capabilities of RIGS, making it a more precise, user-friendly, and robust robotic solution for addressing staffing challenges and efficiently navigating diverse environments.
