Project description
Bidirectional charging of a normal electric vehicle
Context
While the country is struggling with net congestion and the rapid growth of solar energy, millions of electric vehicles remain parked and unused for most of the day. These cars represent a huge, untapped source of energy: batteries on wheels.
Our project delivers a smart Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) solution that combines software and hardware to let energy flow from EVs back to the grid. The vehicle believes it is charging, while in reality it supports the grid, or the client's home. This helps reduce congestion, better use renewable energy, and create a more flexible and reliable energy system.
Results
We started the project with two boxes that didn't work. One of them was the 'new' unit, where we had to install the right hardware to get it running. We wrote code to automate the discharging process and added the necessary components to the box so it could draw power from the vehicle. Besides that, we built a web application to make the system user-friendly for the customer.
