Project description
Momo Medical, a medical innovation company, aims to relieve working conditions in nursing homes by automating the health monitoring of patients. A technology that is proven to be useful in providing efficient care for the elderly is an indoor tracking system. Momo Medical has developed an indoor navigation system, but they do not achieve the required accuracy to reliably monitor patients in real time.
In line with the functional requirements of the proposed Human Activity Recognition system of Momo Medical, an exploratory investigation into the applicability of Bluetooth and an 868 MHz-based localization system is done.
Context
In recent years, the demand for indoor localization systems has grown rapidly. Indoor localization technology enables accurate monitoring of individuals in indoor environments, where traditional satellite localization falls short. Indoor localization systems provide opportunities for the medical sector, where the technology has contributed to improved Human Activity Recognition (HAR).
Momo Medical is a medical innovation company that aims to integrate an indoor localization system into their existing smart bed sensor ecosystem. The system is intended to support health monitoring of patients in nursing home environments by combining patients' location data and smart bed data, enabling early indication of pressure ulcers or reduced autonomy of patients.
Automated predictions and live insights in health can help relieve the workload for caregivers and can help with personalized care.
Results
Due to the requirement of realizing an building independent tracking system, the proposed Bluetooth and 868 MHz solutions do not achieve the required accuracy needed for accurate tracking. As a result, calculated locations differ by a few meters from the actual location.
