The field of ICT is developing at an accelerating pace and the demand for innovation is growing. In the Fontys ICT InnovationLab, students, lecturers, researchers and business professionals work together on applied research and the development of tomorrow’s ICT solutions. Located in Eindhoven on Strijp-T, in the heart of the Brainport region, the InnovationLab is growing into a regional knowledge hub where education, research and business amplify and accelerate each other.

On May 31, 2021, European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel visited Eindhoven together with Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven and State Secretary Mona Keijzer. In her closing speech, Ms Gabriel expressed being impressed by the work of the institutions: "We want a more inclusive programme, and here we have a great example of how to work together with companies, researchers, professionals and young people."

On 31 May 2021, Fontys University of Applied Sciences will be welcoming EU Commissioner Mariya Gabriel and Dutch Minister of Education Ingrid van Engelshoven for a visit to the Fontys ICT InnovationLab. This is the first visit the Commissioner makes since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, on the invitation of minister Van Engelshoven.

During King's Day 2021, Fontys ICT InnovationLab will show how they can measure and monitor biodiversity using drones and Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the 'Flower Power' project. Fontys lecturer AI Gerard Schouten will discuss this from 14:00 - 14:30 with a number of ICT students who have made contributions to the project in various semesters.

Collaborating with industry is nothing new for FHICT. "We've been doing that for about 13 years with our Partners in Education," said Suzanne van Kuijk, Program Manager of the InnovationLab. "That enduring collaboration ensures informed feedback on the curriculum and keeps us up-to-date on what's going on in the corporate ICT landscape. So that we can respond well to the ever-evolving market."
