Project description

A robot that is to roam around on the Heartlounge at the Catharina hospital and interact with patients.

Context

At the heartlounge of the Catharina hospital, many patients come in and get treated for the day. At the end they get handed a flyer with information that is needed for the aftercare of the procedure they underwent. Although many people still come back almost regularly as they don’t change they’re way of life. They now want to use a robot, in this case the James from Zorabots, to try and change that. Now it’s up to us to make James move robustly and without crashing into people, but to also interact with the patients and give them information on the procedure they are either about to undergo or have already undergone

Results

From our project the most important part is the moving around bit. We managed to make James move robustly from point to point, and have him avoid dynamic obstacles. During this movement it is also possible to call an emergency. During this emergency James will find it's nearest emergency point and move to it, and stay there until the emergency is called off. James also returns to it's charging station when it's battery gets low on power.
James can also recover its position when he is moved, just press the button on top and he will try to relocate himself.
On James itself is also an Proof Of Concept application loaded that is to be used for interaction with the patients. This app gives information about the various procedures and aftercare that the hospital offers.
