Project description
The goal of this project is to help students and teachers without a technical background use the full potential of the tool. So, they can make their assessments not only based on the videos but also on the actual datapoints.
Context
The Fontys Paramedics faculty currently uses a motion capture tool that analyses and generates valuable kinetics and kinematics data. This activity is managed in the university lab with the help of software runed on a PC, 8 cameras in total situated at different angles and two force plates in the middle. With this hardware, students and teachers make multiple recordings of someone walking to look at the general movement, based on the video they analyse if there is a possible problem with someone.
Due to the complexity of the tool, students and teachers do not use the actual data they get from the software, instead they only look at the video created. This means that a lot of valuable information is not being used by the students and teachers while the system does provide that information.
The software is an expensive investment and currently it is not getting used to its full potential. Therefore, the client is seeking a solution that allows students and teachers to easily load and access the data generated and get insights which are based on real numbers rather than just assumptions.
Results
This project resulted in a fully automated solution using Python for data processing, a database for structured storage, and Power BI for visualization. The solution focuses on making motion capture data more understandable and usable for students and teachers. Next steps within this project is to pay more attention to the front end part and design . On the side of the back end part will be a good advice to spent time on simplifying the automated solution and to find way to connect the tool itself to this part.
