Project description
This project aims to develop a fully immersive, multiplayer VR game that blends the high-stakes intensity of Russian roulette with the strategic twist of power-ups. Designed for 2-4 players seated around a virtual table, each player wields a gun and must decide whether to use perks or aim at others-or themselves. The game is turn-based and relies heavily on psychological tension, strategic decision-making, and immersive VR mechanics to deliver an intense party game experience. Built in Unity using UnityXR and Unity Netcode, the project focuses on synchronized multiplayer gameplay, engaging audio-visual design, and intuitive VR interaction.
Context
The popularity of tense, party-style games like Buckshot Roulette and Liar’s Bar has proven that players enjoy risky, high-stakes experiences. However, these games are predominantly available on traditional PC platforms, leaving a significant gap in the VR market. This project seeks to fill that void by introducing a similarly intense game tailored specifically for VR, using its immersive capabilities to amplify the psychological tension and player engagement. The goal is to create a unique, dark, and thrilling social experience that feels both fun and unsettling.
Results
The main outcome of our project is a functional and immersive VR multiplayer game that transforms the tension of Russian roulette into a turn-based party experience. Designed for 2–4 players, the game features synced interactions, strategic perks, voice chat, and a dark, atmospheric setting that enhances immersion. We discovered that seated VR improves comfort and clear audio cues increase immersion. The project successfully fills a gap in the VR market by offering a unique, high-stakes social experience with strong potential for future development.
