No Prep Interactive Quizzes / Polls
Project description
How can we design a quiz tool for interactive touch displays that allows non-technical users to create and run quizzes on the fly, without prior setup or login? That was the main challenge proposed by i3Connect. The goal was to create an intuitive, fast, and accessible interface that fits classroom and workshop environments where preparation time is minimal and phones are not allowed. Through iterative design, feedback cycles, and user testing, we developed a simplified flow that removes unnecessary steps and places all functionality into a single overlay. The result is a clean, robust quiz creation experience designed specifically for shared-screen use.
Context
This project was developed in collaboration with i3Connect, a company that builds interactive displays used in educational and professional environments. The goal was to design a quiz and poll tool tailored specifically for large touchscreens, where users—mainly teachers and presenters—can create interactive questions instantly during a lesson or presentation.
Traditional quiz tools like Kahoot or Mentimeter often require advance preparation, personal devices, and user logins. However, in many classrooms, student phone use is restricted, and not all users are technically experienced. That’s where this tool fits in: it’s meant to be used on the spot, with no setup time, no accounts, and no reliance on personal devices.
The application is part of a broader shift toward shared-device interaction, where the focus is on intuitive design, quick feedback, and minimizing cognitive load. We continuously tested our prototypes on actual TV displays to ensure that the interface worked well from a distance and was easy to interact with on a large screen.
By focusing on this niche use case—quiz creation without preparation—we aimed to solve a specific but common problem in classrooms and workshops. The result is a tool that simplifies spontaneous audience engagement in educational settings, helping users capture feedback, test knowledge, and adjust teaching in real time.
Results
The main outcome of this project is a functional MVP (Minimum Viable Product) that successfully proves the value and usability of on-the-fly quiz creation on large interactive displays. The application was built as a web app and is planned to be integrated into the CTOUCH/i3Connect whiteboard ecosystem. It supports creating quizzes and polls instantly, with all essential actions—writing questions, selecting answers, counting votes, revealing results—available in one overlay interface, optimized for shared touchscreen use.
The value of the product was confirmed through repeated feedback sessions with the client and multiple rounds of user testing. According to the Chief Development Officer at CTOUCH, the product has reached a level where the core idea is fully validated. He confirmed that once internal development resources are available, the company can proceed with further implementation and integration immediately. This places the project at a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 6: a prototype demonstrated in a relevant environment, with stakeholder commitment for future development.
In terms of insights, we proved that:
- A tool like this solves a real-world problem for educators and presenters who need flexibility without preparation.
- Removing unnecessary steps (e.g., login, setup screens) greatly increases the usability of shared-screen apps.
- Teachers appreciate simple, centralized controls—especially when using unfamiliar hardware like interactive boards.
Another major insight was how crucial layout and sizing are when designing for large-format displays. Throughout the project, we tested the interface directly on big screens to ensure visibility, clarity, and ease of interaction from a distance.
Overall, the project delivered a validated MVP, clear product-market fit, and a ready-to-implement design, which is already scheduled for future integration into an existing commercial platform.
