Parking Insights Dashboard
Project description
How can we design a user-friendly and scalable dashboard that provides real-time, actionable insights into parking behavior, enabling SimplePark to make data-driven operational decisions?
This challenge involves transforming raw parking data into clear visualizations and meaningful metrics that help identify usage patterns, peak hours, and potential inefficiencies. The dashboard must support filtering, comparison over time, and intuitive navigation for both technical and non-technical users. Additionally, it needs to be built in a flexible and maintainable way to accommodate future expansion, such as data feeds or predictive analytics.
Context
The goal of this project is to develop a data dashboard that provides SimplePark with clear insights into how their parking services are used. The dashboard will visualize key metrics such as occupancy rates, peak hours, average parking duration, and user behavior. Data will be collected from existing infrastructure. The dashboard is intended as an internal analytical tool for SimplePark employees to support operational decisions and reporting.
In the Smart Mobility sector, efficient space utilization, sustainability, and ease of use are critical. Through this dashboard, SimplePark aims to gain control over these factors, improve their service, and expand to new markets or locations. The final product must be scalable, secure, user-friendly, and future-proof.
Results
The main value of the SimplePark project lies in enabling data-informed decision-making and providing operational transparency. Our dashboard not only delivers clarity into parking performance but also lays the groundwork for future data-driven features such as an AI-based occupancy forecasting.
The positive stakeholder feedback and TRL validation confirm that the product is both usable and scalable for practical implementation.
About the project group
Jasper van den Heuvel (22) from Eindhoven and Koen Hilbrands (24) from Deurne are both ICT students at Fontys. Jasper has a background in Media and Application Development from SUMMA ICT in Eindhoven, which led him to continue his studies at Fontys. Koen previously studied Marketing, Communication, and Events at SUMMA. After a year of working, he decided to challenge himself and also joined Fontys ICT.
In their first three semesters, both focused on Media Design, followed by a semester in Smart Mobile. For their internships, Koen did is internship at Wedentify, while Jasper interned at DAF Trucks.
