Cool innovative projects during Innovations Insight

From projects on moral dilemmas in the implementation of smart technology to an app that helps users understand the symptoms and progression of Alzheimer's disease, the diversity of ideas was once again impressive at Innovations Insight.

On 20 January this event took place at Mindlabs in Tilburg, which meant that, in addition to the Fontys ICT projects, students from Fontys Journalism and Futures Lab also presented their work. One of the Fontys ICT projects focused on making a positive contribution to the image of Tilburg North by telling real stories and distributing them throughout the city via QR codes. The municipality of Tilburg was so enthusiastic about the idea that they want to develop it further. Another project, for example, involved a working planning application for Amarant. This application automatically schedules appointments that meet the specific needs of the care recipient and provides a planning app for the care provider. This is a major step forward compared to the current working method. AI has, of course, played a major role in this.

In Eindhoven, no fewer than 142 projects were presented at the Fontys ICT InnovationLab. With themes such as AI & Data, Immersive Technologies, Smart Systems, and Cyber Security, these projects are particularly significant for the Brainport region, where innovation and collaboration are the drivers of economic growth.

One of the projects that attracted attention was the Alzheimer's app. This app is intended for people who care for or deal with loved ones suffering from Alzheimer's disease on a daily basis. The app provides advice on dealing with everyday situations such as communication problems, memory loss or behavioural changes and supports users in making informed decisions. Because the chatbot is always available, it acts as a reliable first point of contact, improving patient care.

In another project, students from Game Production developed a chaotic party game in which four players take on the role of little rats in a giant kitchen. There, they collect ingredients and prepare all kinds of dishes without being discovered.

SPARC Awards: tech talent in the spotlight

Innovations Insight concludes each semester with the famous SPARC Awards: a festive moment where the best and most innovative projects are honoured in three categories: technical innovation, social impact and creativity. The winning projects came from all corners of the ICT domain and demonstrated not only how much tech talent there is in the region, but also how powerfully education can contribute to society.

A big round of applause for: Euclid space telescope computer vision, Alzheimer's App & PSV Player Popularity Index and Visualiser 1.
