Project description
We are working on a client project for Son en Breugel Verbindt and Archipel Zorggroep. The goal is to redesign and rebuild the community platform of Son en Breugel Verbindt, a local organization that connects residents through initiatives like AutoMaatje and FietsMaatje.
Our approach started with thorough research including stakeholder interviews, field sessions and platform analysis, which shaped the direction of our designs and technical decisions.
Context
This project is set in the healthcare and community welfare domain. In the Netherlands, there is a growing shift toward community driven care, where residents are encouraged to support each other before turning to professional healthcare. Son en Breugel Verbindt operates within this context as a local community organization funded by the municipality.
The organization facilitates volunteer driven initiatives that help residents, particularly elderly people, stay connected and live independently for longer. The digital platform plays a central role in making these initiatives accessible to the community, but the current system is outdated and difficult to use for both residents and administrators. This project focuses on improving that platform to better serve its users.
Results
The main outcomes of this project are a fully redesigned community platform based on real stakeholder research, a complete set of high fidelity designs covering all core pages, and a working development foundation with the first pages built in React and a backend architecture in place.
The research revealed that the existing platform was failing its users due to poor navigation and an outdated system, which directly shaped every design and technical decision made throughout the project.
About the project group
Our project group consists of three ICT students from Fontys: Destina, Jay and Bartosz. Destina focuses on UX design and frontend development, Jay on backend development, and Bartosz on software architecture and research.
