Project description
The goal of this project is to improve the quality and depth of conversations between participants within the VR/AR experience, in order to generate more meaningful and usable data for Moral Design Lab to give to their client, the municipality of Eindhoven
Context
Moral Design Lab is a research group within Fontys that collaborates with different municipalities in the Netherlands on urban development challenges. For the municipality of Eindhoven, they are currently researching the public's opinions toward the integration of drone technology in urban environments.
The existing AR/VR experience they have, presents participants with moral dilemmas related to drones (e.g. surveillance, delivery, safety vs. privacy). The goal of this experience is not only to educate, but its core is also to collect qualitative data on how people think and feel about these dilemmas.
Results
We developed a VR experience using 360-degree street-view environments to place users in realistic future drone scenarios. By grounding ethical dilemmas in familiar locations, participants found it easier to understand the situations and relate them to their own experiences.
Alongside this, we improved the onboarding process and refined the structure of the prompts to support clearer discussions. User testing showed that these changes encouraged participants to express their opinions more openly and generated richer qualitative data for our research.
About the project group
Group members from all over the world. Aruba, Bulgaria and Taiwan. We made the group at the start of the semester and built strong immersive experiences. We work hard to make realize our ideas, but most importantly we try to keep our experiences fun. not only for the users but also for ourselves.
