Project description
This project originates from a collaboration between Fontys and Power to Power. Power to Power is a company developing a distributed energy system that converts surplus renewable electricity into hydrogen and later into methane gas for storage in the existing gas network. The stored gas can later be converted back into electricity and heat to supply homes.
The concept is based on modular, container-sized installations that combine industrial control systems, digital communication, and physical energy processes. The system integrates PLCs, remote connections, and a digital twin environment. Because of this it can be qualified as a cyber-physical system. A cyber-physical system is an integration of computation, networking, and physical processes where embedded computers and networks monitor and control physical objects.
Right now, the installation is still in development, which creates an opportunity to integrate cybersecurity from the design phase onward.
Context
the security of a cyber physical system which will be used as part of the energy infrastructure
Results
- - Research report
- a secure architecture/environment demo buildt in netlab
- none technical report
- a advisory report for the students working on the digital twin.
- Secure network architecture design
- Security monitoring & incident design
- Tests, reports & demo's
About the project group
Most of the group has a background in infrastructure, with one student having a background in software development.
Generally, we met up 2 times a week for meeting and discussing progress, with 1 meeting being online and the other being on location, though more/different meetings happened as needed. During these meetings we discussed our progress on our tasks and what each team member will do during the next week.
