Digital twins are revolutionising the manufacturing industry. They make it possible to produce more efficiently and to offer better maintenance and service (also preventively). The technology is there, but the study of its application in the field is in full swing. Fontys University of Applied Sciences ICT participates has joined the international partnership Digital Twin Academy as a research partner. The aim of this joint project is to make the knowledge and applications of digital twins available to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Just imagine standing there... Presenting your project to representatives of the Ministry of Defence, the army, US Army and NATO. This is how the semester ended for Fontys students ICT & Technology Daan van Knippenberg and Wouter Pennings. With their team, they worked for the Ministry of Defence on the project 'Smart Tactical Robot', which they were allowed to present and demonstrate to the aforementioned audience.

On Wednesday 7 July representatives of the Ministry of Defence will visit the Fontys ICT InnovationLab. For their visit, they've also invited a delegation from the US Army. This visit to the Brainport region will be about the cooperation in the development of robotisation and autonomous systems, on which a lot of applied research is done within Fontys.

On May 31, 2021, European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel visited Eindhoven together with Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven and State Secretary Mona Keijzer. In her closing speech, Ms Gabriel expressed being impressed by the work of the institutions: "We want a more inclusive programme, and here we have a great example of how to work together with companies, researchers, professionals and young people."
