Project description
For our project, our goal was to define a bridge between old and new education. We did this by using Natural Language Processing on literature and personal stories regarding old and new education. By using this, it was easy for us to analyze the different documents and see what the principles are behind those different ways of educating. Our goal is to spread awareness to as much people as possible, and make them see that newer ways of education are better.
Context
When we started this minor, we noticed that education is given in a different way here. We don't have lectures and tests, but we work together as a group to get to our own personal learning goals. We noticed that this would boost our motivation and that we would actually learn the things we want to learn. This gave us the idea to start the Education 2.0 project with flooid, because we thought this new way of educating was awesome.
Results
Our most important outcomes are the differences we have found between these different ways of education. In the 'old' system, everything is driven by tests, exams and a diploma. This is what drives people to just get a good grade and just finish the study as soon as possible. In newer ways of education there is a focus on motivation from the student, rather than the results. Everyone is different, so everyone should learn in their own way. Also, people should be able to set their own goals. We got to those results by using NLP and Graph Databases. We analyzed stories and documents from both the old and the new system. By doing this, it was easy to see how people talked differently about these two different systems.
About the project group
Our group exists of people from different backgrounds. 2 project members have an ICT background, while the other 3 study economics. The 2 ICT members of the group are also international students. In our project we always had a meeting on Monday to discuss the plans for the coming week, and on Friday we would have a meeting to show our results. On Thursday we would have meetings with the client company, discussing our thoughts and brainstorming about our ideas. This really helped us in defining our goal and vision.
